Crankcase - PCC - Figure

Crankcase

As we wind down our look at the third wave of Power Core Combiners, we come across Crankcase and the Destrons. Crankcase, formerly Huffer, has been treated to a Decepticon paint job and a set of 4 drones borrowed from what was left of Bombshock and Skyburst.

Bio

Crankcase didn't start off as a bully. He started off bitter, mean and small-minded, and the strength granted by the Power Core process made him capable of taking his misery out on others. His few moments of happiness all occur when he uses his incredible might against someone unable to fight back. Then he's right back to being miserable.

Commander Mode

Crankcase is pretty, well, monotone. Aside from his combiner ports, he is all black and grey. There is some light blue on the chest, and his head does have red optics.

Now I know what you're thinking. A different head and this could have easily passed as Motormaster. Would have been a perfect fit, right? The mold is overal pretty decent, but a little more color would have been nice.

Articulation

Feet:Stationary
Knees: Pin hinge, 90 degree bend. Pinned above knee for unlimited lower leg rotation.
Hips: Dual pin hinges, 180 degree bend and 90 degree spread.
Waist:Stationary
Shoulders:Ball joint, 180 degree rotation and 90 degree spread
Elbows:Ball joint, 180 degree bend and unlimited rotation
Head:Pinned for unlimited rotation and 90 degree downward bend

Good joints overall, just remember to make the combiner ports on his legs double as heels.

Commander Mode Specs

Width:2.5in/63.5mm
Depth:1.5in/38.1mm

Transformation

Commander to Vehicle Mode

Identical to Huffer.

Alt Mode

Crankcase retains the Xerox-type paint job in semi mode. Blue headlights, some blue scripting on the hood and a blue windshield are your only contrast.

Some might also think this might make a perfect Nemesis Prime. That very well could be. In fact, there's probably several characters that this scheme would be better suited to. Crankcase, however, just isn't one of them.

Alt Mode Specs

Length: 3.75in/95.3mm
Wheelbase:2.5in/63.4mm (from front to rearmost wheel)
Width:1.5in/38.1in
Height:1.63in/41.4mm (2.25in/57.2mm if Minicon is mounted in weapons mode)
Wheels: 6, rotating
Detailed cockpit:N/A

Drones

Crankcase features 4 drones repainted from previous releases. They are the combat helicopter from Skyburst, the combat SUV from Bombshock, the missile tank from Bombshock and the radar plane from Skyburst. Like the other 5 pack drones, they combine with Crankcase (or any other Commander) to form the Combiner mode.

Transformation

From Commander to Combiner Mode

Identical to Huffer.

Combiner Mode

The helicopter drone should be forever retired as a leg drone. It does a horrible job. That's unfortunate, because the rest of the drones go well with Crankcase in combiner mode. I would definitely substitute that drone for another. Or just substitute all the drones for the Rallybot drones and make your own Menasor. The choice is yours.

Verdict

Commander Mode: A decent scout, a bit boring in the color department.
Alt Mode:A rig that even looks good in black.
Combiner Mode:The helicopter drone makes for frustrating posing due to lack of footprint.
Overall:Could have done better with some different drones. The obvious yet again escapes Hasbro.

Class:Scout plus drone 4pack

MSRP:$20
